The New Black Panther Series

Just wondering if anyone is interested this? When I first saw the solicitation, I was lukewarm at best. I loved the Priest series and liked a lot of Hudlin's early stuff (lost interest during the whole courtship/wedding storyline), but it just seemed like it was too soon for yet another #1. I was going to pass even though I do like the character and Wakanda quite a bit. But of course, as it got closer to place my order with DCBS, I began to waiver and I also saw the house ad with Echo (as a possible Black Panther) who I like. Anyway, I am getting it, but I'll only give it a few issues. How's everyone else feeling about this relaunch?

I'm giving #1 a try. How can you go wrong for only a buck through HC. I think it may be two bucks from DCBS. Anyways, I picked up one of the Hudlin "Black Panther" trades at a show and I liked it enough that I want to read more. Ken Lashley's artwork has a intensity and flashiness to it that will lend nicely to a new Black Panther. I'd like to see where they take this new series. I really liked the character of T'Challa and all the Wakanda lore. Although, I don't have the history with Black Panther that other fans have.

I was interested in the title until I saw the image as Echo as Black Panther. I do not have a problem with a female Black Panther, but I have no interest in following Echo do anything.

I am definately on board because I love Black Panther and Wakanda. I own most of his adventures so don't won't to miss out on this.

Who is Echo? I liked Hudlin's recent series, so I will be on board with this one as well. Bottom line for me - if the creators are good, generally the comic will be as well - so whoever Echo is, I'm willing to try it.

Apparently Bendis used her in Daredevil and brought her over to the Avengers as Ronin in one of more disappoint reveals of a characters I can remember.

Marvel has a list of possible Black Panther characters, and I would take any over Echo.

I'm pretty sure that Echo was created by David Mack. He wrote and painted an arc of Daredevil that introduced her. It might have come right before Bendis started. The Ronin reveal was kind of lame. She's probably not the best choice as Black Panther (especially looking at the other possibilities) but I was interested to see that she's in the mix. Maybe there will be more than one Black Panther? Seems like something T'Challa might do...

I've always found Echo to be Elektra Lite, so as a long-time T'Challa fan, I go into this new series with very low expectations. That said, I'll generally give any new Marvel or DC mainstream series a try for an issue or two, so we'll see if they can grab and keep me.

ah..thanks for the link. I know who Echo is from reading DD/Avengers - just had a mental hiccup/disconnect and didn't match up the name with the character.

In any event, as I mentioned, I have confidence in Hudlin - so no matter who it is, I think he will do it well. But Echo isn't black, is she? I suspect the new character will be black. Hudlin has really been writing this series with a black "vibe" that I have been enjoying (says the Jewish white kid from the Bronx! lol) - it's sort of like the Spike Lee joint of comics.

I'm not sure if the "Echo as Black Panther" is just a mis-direction or not, but it would be a mistake, IMO.

Being the Black Panther is a Wakandan thing, and has certain Wakandan religious overtones (I thought). Echo is not Wakandan.

I was assuming the female BP would be T'Challa's sister or some other female Wakandan, if it's not, I'll most likely be dropping the title.

Actually if you guys have been checking the ads, it may indeed be mis direction as the have been asking "what if XYZ is the New BP?"

I just saw a new ad depicting Shiri could be the next one and that is who I am going with...and actually if people want to see how this might happen, should pick up X Men World's End featuring Storm.

Me...storywise, it might be a cool thing, saleswise, no....Black Panther is not a big seller as it is and to make this kind of changeover IMO is really another way to kill this title.

Picked it up today and I am somewhat disappointed.

about 16 to 18 pages of story and then 10 pages of BP history....what????

Hudlin and crew had all this time and I couldn't even get a FULL book of story?

Not to mention it almost reads like BP Civil War

I hope they don't leave us hanging for 6 or 7 issues and not tell us who it will be...

My New Mantra

"Learn from the failures of Red Hulk"

Less than 22 pages of story is disappointing. I'm still waiting for my copy from DCBS, but that's definitely not what I wanted to hear. I know it's been said a lot already, but it's really hard to trust Marvel. Unfortunately, that makes pre-ordering difficult. I probably won't pre-order this book again until I've read the first 3 issues. And these Saga things are such a waste. No matter the quality, you can still get better information online.

I dodged that bullet. Being unemployed my mantra has been "Don't spend all of the mortgage payment on comics."

That having been said, once I get employed again, I'll probably fill in a bunch of the gaps that are starting to begin in my collection.
